Trunk Shows – What are they and why you should try to snag an appointment!

As a bride-to-be when you begin the search for the perfect wedding dress you may see some bridal shops mention or advertise for trunk show, but what exactly is a trunk show?  Keep reading and you will see why a trunk show is one of the best times to shop for a dress!

What is a Trunk Show? 

              A Trunk Show is a special event bridal shops will host to give their brides a larger sampling of dresses from a particular designer.  The designer being featured will send the store extra samples that the store normally may not carry.  These dresses may be samples from the current collection or dresses straight from the runway that are not offered in stores yet!  The dresses are usually only in the store for one weekend, and often times the store hosting the trunk show may even offer some kind of trunk show promotion. 

Why should you make an appointment for a Trunk Show?

              First thing to remember: it is very important to make an appointment for trunk shows!!! Most (if not all) stores will require appointments to shop during a trunk show.  This is only to be sure each bride has the perfect experience!  Trunk show weekends can tend to book up quicker because often times stores will have brides coming in from all over the country to shop for that special designer! 

              Trunk shows are a very fun time to shop, many stores will pull out all stops to celebrate for the weekend!  Sometimes there may even be a guest appearance from the designer themselves or someone from the design or sales team!  Stores will sometimes offer a trunk show discount or promotion for brides who are shopping during that time. 

Trunk Show Tips & Tricks!!

              It is always good to do your research- if you are finding that lots of dresses on your secret “Dream Dress” Pinterest board are from a specific designer check out their website and see if a store near you is hosting a trunk show. 

• Call the store and don’t be afraid to ask questions!!  Finding out the price range of the dresses from your designer of choice is one of the most important things to know before you begin shopping or schedule your trunk show appointment.  There is nothing worse than falling in love with a dress or designer and than finding out the dresses are not in your budget. 
• If there is a particular dress you have been dreaming about, find out if the store has it as a sample or if it will be available during the trunk show.  Sometimes if you call in advance the store can request a specific dress from the designer!
• Be ready to buy!  If you are trying on trunk show dresses always remember those dresses are leaving the store once the show is over, and you may not be able to try it on again!  Also, if a store is offering a trunk show discount or promotion it is usually only during the trunk show weekend and often the only times you will be able to get a discount on a special order dress.
